Which USB->Serial converter are you using? Some of them work, some do 
not. Is it a Keyspan? Some other brand?

It doesn't exist. Your IIIc is a serial-only device. It does not 
support USB. I have one here somehwere in my pile-of-old-Palm devices, 
and it ships with a PalmIII cradle, which is exclusively serial (not 
USB).
