I highly recommend you do not run your things as root. If you use --prefix, you won't have to be root to install anyway. You could check if http://live.gnome.org/Planner%20Installation%20Guide is still up-to-date. It hasn't been updated in a long time. It is complaining about gettext that is missing. I'm not sure why.
