Costs calculations with resources

Hi, I've just subscribed to the list.

I've started using Planner a few days ago and I want to calculate resource
costs, afaik there are 2 types of resources:

   - humans
   - materials

In both cases the total cost is calculated from the daily cost of each
resource.

How can I add a new type of resource with a fixed cost? I know I must
develop it,  I don't know how because I've never wrote a line of code for
the Gnome project but I want to give it a try.

Any suggestions?
(implementation suggestions, development environment, etc)
