Thanks, I forgot ldconfig
I then installed pygtk-2.2.0, and gnome-python-2.0.2, and updated
/etc/ld.so.conf and ran ldconfig.

But running ./configure for pybliographer-1.2.3
gives the error 
configure: error: error in python modules dependencies: No module
named gconf

when gconf was built in the gnome-python-2.0.2 installation, and I
have a new 
/usr/local/lib/python2.2/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gconf.so 

Hopefully there is just something else I have forgotten to do...
