It surprises me that I've never seen such a framework for any of the major
open source cross-platform GUI libraries.  If you've not already found it,
maybe this page at least provides some inspiration:

The nearest thing there seems to be some Perl/X11 thing, which I haven't
looked at.

Just one very, very quiet scream of horror: screen scraping and other
functional tests don't replace unit tests.
