Error Starting Pybliographer 1.2.x

I get the following error when trying to start pybliographer 1.2.2 or
1.2.3:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/pybliographer", line 133, in ?
    print_version ()
  File "/usr/bin/pybliographer", line 45, in print_version
    print (_("This is %s, version %s") % (progname, version)).encode
(charset)
TypeError: encode() argument 1 must be string, not None

any ideas?
