crossreferences with pybcompact

Hi

I tried using pybcompact with a .tex and big .bib file (2,2 MB). It 
works fine for simple entries, but i have a problem when it comes to 
cross references:

There is an entry in the .bib file like this:

@InProceedings{Kuhlen/etal:96,
   Author         = "R. Kuhlen and M. Rittberger and B. Bekavac",
   Title          = "Information Retrieval in a Regional, Distributed
                    Information Area",
   crossref       = "NIR:96",
   entrydate      = "19980216",
   key            = "Kuhlen/etal:96",
   year           = 1996
}

This entry is extraced in exact the same way when i call pybcompact on 
the .tex and our .bib file

The Problem is: the crossreferenced entry NIR:96 will NOT be extracted.

How can this be done? Thanks.
