Several months ago I gave up trying to pybliographer to work with fink (an open source repository) on OS X 10.3. The problems seemed to stem from the shared library namespace for the Python that ships with OS X. A few days ago I tried with a fresh slate and I'm happy to report success. But it wasn't easy: a huge number of packages needed to compiled from fink (the binaries are too out of date) including python, gnome-python, etc. Additionally the well-described recode patches for 3.6 are necessary. But the bottom line is it works and despite all the problems is worth it. The only Bibtex alternatives for OS X are: Bibdesk, which is very slick and OS X native (but buggy, slow, and doesn't deal with Medline very well), and the Java JabRef, which doesn't have full Medline search capabilities. One question I have is if anyone out there is working a more cross-platform solution that isn't so Gnome dependent (perhaps wxwindows or QT). Then I could have a nice native looking app without running an X server and compiling and installing hundreds of extra packages. Depending how it was done such a program could also be used in Windoze. Anyways, thanks for a great program!
