I consider orphaning pybliographer

Good evening!

I've been working on pybliographer for a while now. Unfortunately I
don't use it personally anymore, which limits my incentive to continue
to do so. Recently, I've used it to try out different design and
technologies (on how to adapt various databases, how to use twisted
for querying external databases,...) which might not have been for the
direct benefit of the users.

The global shape of the code, imho, is the following:

 * 1.2 is definitely usable, but prone to bit rot: it has no decent
tests, and some design choices limit the evolution of the code base. I
definitely don't fancy working on it as it doesn't make it possible to
run the experiments I'm interested in
 * 1.3 is interesting and seems sane in terms of design. I've been
recently working on the following things:
     * new external queries: arXiv is half done
     * a BibTeX bst engine, so that 1.3 is able to reuse and extend
legacy bibtex formats (and integrate them in openoffice for instance)
     * a new interface to modify bibtex files programatically (much
simpler than the current one, no loss on parts that are not modified
even if they cannot be interpreted fully)

However, I definitely don't have the time to make a _product_ out of
1.3, which is a shame. I definitely feel that people that would have a
need for the features could jump in and move the code from "proof of
concept" to "usable". I'm definitely ready to help them out and spend
some time documenting things, explaining, fixing random things, but
either I or the code turned off most of those few who were interested
in the codebase. So, despite interesting discussions (hi Zoltan, hi
Peter !), today it costs me more frustration than satisfaction.

So I'd like to plan either the handing off or the retirement of
pybliographer. From my perspective, this means:

  * I'll be here to help out as much as possible until the end of
2008, but won't start any new effort
  * I'll then consider myself a simple subscriber to the ml and
advertise the fact the the project is frozen, to avoid misleading
potential users
  * I won't renew the domain name (in 2011, this gives some time :)),
unless someone has taken over the project by then
