Problems with album art and notifications

I'm having two separate problems with album art and notifications in
Rhythmbox. Both of these were tested on a song that stored the album art in
the same folder as "cover.jpg".

1) I'm running openSUSE 11.4, and when I install from the repositories,
album art doesn't display. It just spins indefinitely; dragging and dropping
the album cover into the album art location doesn't help
2) When I compile and install from source, it picks up the album art, but
the song-change notification displays the album art full size (600x600
pixels), which is way too big for a notification

Any idea what might be causing these problems?
