It's OK, I made it in the end, you have to add a whole lot more
options to the ./configure, I ended up with:-

    ./configure --enable-system-sqlite --with-help --with-ui --enable-gdaui-gi=yes --enable-gda-gi=yes --enable-introspection=yes

I'm not sure if they're all actually necessary but I've got
gda-browser-5.0 now.

I think a bit more help text in the configure options would be useful.
