To be honest, the locking down is something I'd rather see shelved until
gconf is fixed.

gconf's problems, especially when going between platforms, like solaris
and linux makes gnome almost unusable in a networked environment.

I know there is a 6 month time frame but if developers want to spend
time on features to help sysadmins then gconf's storage mechanisms need
an overhaul, immediately.


The lock down stuff can be worked around, gconf cannot be.
