gnome-build: ./configure --disable-static does not work && libtool

Even after using:
$ ./configure --disable-static
... a few .a static archives are built and installed.

Also, is there any reason you ship your own libtool script? Can we not
use the system-wide libtool?

I am using gnome-build-0.2.0
(http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-build/0.2/gnome-build-0.2.0.tar.gz).
