I've built it on my Debian unstable system with GNOME2.2 by modifying
configure to say:

GTK_REQUIRED=2.2.2
GNOME_REQUIRED=2.2.2
BONOBO_REQUIRED=2.2.2
GNOME_BUILD_REQUIRED=0.1.0
GDL_REQUIRED=0.4.0
VFS_REQUIRED=2.2.5
XML_REQUIRED=2.5.8
VTE_REQUIRED=0.11.0

Although I don't think you should be too bound to these requirements, it
would be very nice to have debs for this release, at least =).

The program seems to run well, although the Editor Preferences menu option
and the icons for the Project handling (new project, etc) are missing
after a make install, it seems:

(scaffold:9425): Bonobo-WARNING **: Could not find GNOME pixmap file scaffold-new-project.png

(scaffold:9425): Bonobo-WARNING **: Could not find GNOME pixmap file scaffold-open-project.png

(scaffold:9425): Bonobo-WARNING **: Could not find GNOME pixmap file scaffold-close-project.png

(scaffold:9425): Bonobo-WARNING **: FIXME: verb 'EditorPreferences' not found, emit exception

[]s!
