Patches of downstream packages involving translatable strings is rather cumbersome. I'm obviously biased, but since Mallard offers this nice feature with conditionals, I think it does make sense to include distro specific modifications in the upstream code to a limited extent. It's worth mentioning that the "install" style links don't work on Ubuntu, so that's the reason why I chose "apt" instead. Actually, for that reason I have a vague plan to propose a bunch of Ubuntu/Debian specific instances of alternative install links, but I will investigate this further before doing so. Maybe there is some other way to deal with the issue, after all. In the meantime it would be much appreciated if you could provide a German translation of that string without replacing "apt". :) > At least, a translator comment should be placed there to avoid > confusion. That would indeed make sense. Is it possible to place such comments in the Mallard markup code?
