Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

Patches of downstream packages involving translatable strings is rather 
cumbersome. I'm obviously biased, but since Mallard offers this nice 
feature with conditionals, I think it does make sense to include distro 
specific modifications in the upstream code to a limited extent.

It's worth mentioning that the "install" style links don't work on 
Ubuntu, so that's the reason why I chose "apt" instead. Actually, for 
that reason I have a vague plan to propose a bunch of Ubuntu/Debian 
specific instances of alternative install links, but I will investigate 
this further before doing so. Maybe there is some other way to deal with 
the issue, after all.

In the meantime it would be much appreciated if you could provide a 
German translation of that string without replacing "apt". :)

That would indeed make sense. Is it possible to place such comments in 
the Mallard markup code?
