Because in the Steam world of gaming, a significant portion of the
games use it for in game communication.

That said it seems that discourse is growing into monolithic piece
of software -- mailing list replacement, slack/teams/chat replacement, etc

Unless of course, there are multiple applications out there all doing
different things using the same name.
