This specific problem has been reported earlier. The source of the
problem is usually the system installed firefox libs. 

You mentioned that you removed the system installation of firefox. A
distro may package firefox development components separately. 


Here is something to try...

Edit gar.conf.mk

LD_LIBRARY_PATH := $(libdir):$(libdir)/firefox-1.5.0.7:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
