cairo compile error (gar 2.19.6)

I think glibc 2.6.1 breaks cairo. It has compiled before with 
gcc-4.2.1/glibc-2.6.0 without error. I even did a "make install" in 
freedesktop/cairo with all CPU optimizations turned off, but I still get 
this error.
