The good binary?

Hello everyone...
I'm new at this mailing list.
I try to install garnome on ubuntu, in a separate
directory (/usr/local/garnome). How can I be sure when
i launch gedit (for example) if it's the new one
(installed by garnome) or the old one (installed by
ubuntu?).
Note : I created a new user named "garnome" and
followed the instructions of the installation's
manual.
