I have seen this documentation, but it is sadly very sparse. Is there
anything more complete? Or is there possibly some example code?

I cannot seem to get the API to work and I am sure it is because I am
using it incorrectly. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much
guidance on how to use it.

AFAIK, none of the Gdome2 bindings for other languages also bind the
Xpath
API.
