I have committed the patch, and have also fixed the DOM implementation
interface by const'ing a couple of char* pointers which weren't meant to
be modifiable.

Strangely, the configure script kept failing claiming that pkg-config
was not installed, and this had somehow to do with glib 1.x. Removing
the glib 1.x stuff all worked nicely. Clues?
