Canvasmm Group question

Folks,

I've written some code using libgnomecanvasmm, and need a method of
deleting all the items in the canvas.

Deleting the root group isn't allowed, and I can't see a method of
retrieving children from a group (although you can do it through the C
API as I recall) for deletion.

Can anyone offer some insight into how it can be done?
