Well, we gotta carry around those badges anyway. If they are to be
carried visibly you could indicate newcomer friendliness by giving the
name or so a background colour, while "normal attendees" have
something boring and "newcomer mentors" have something exclusive and
exciting, in terms of colours ;).

But yeah, buttons will do as well. Though I tend to not see them. It
should be easily visible especially if you're not already talking to
the person.
