Subject: GUADEC 2008 in Tampere, Finland? Intrested?

Hello!

(please, forward this message to persons you consider suitable, but do
avoid spamming!)

Last year in Vilanova i la Geltr=FA at GUADEC [see reference 1] 2006 an
idea of a Finnish application to organize GUADEC emerged. GUADEC is
short for GNOME Users And Developers (European) Conference. GNOME [2] is
a desktop environment for Linux/Unix and a project to develop it with
open source. As COSS [3] is situated in Tampere and Debconf 2005 [4] was
held in Espoo, the discussion started to revolve around Tampere applying
for the conference.

The applications should be sent by May 15th, and before that it is
necessary to find out whether it is possible to organize such a
conference. Organizing GUADEC involves many aspects[5]:
- venue and its ICT infrastructure
- accomodation of guests
- marketing material
- transportation
- sponsors & media
- vips

The applications are reviewed by the GNOME Foundation and the decision
will be announced on GUADEC 2007, held this year in Birmingham, England in =

mid-June.

Traditionally, organizing GUADEC has been, and propably will be based
heavily on volunteer work (while volunteering can actually be tiresome,
volunteering is also fun with certain traditional perks ;-D). I myself
and COSS / Technology Centre Hermia [6] have an intrest on having GUADEC
2008 at Tampere, and are willing to handle some of the issues. Still, a
lot is based on volunteers. This is why I'm writing to you.

This message is sent to you, because I think you might be somewhat
intrested in participating to a working group that would perhaps like to
involve in applying for GUADEC 2008. We at COSS already have some
preliminary thoughts on venue, accomodation, marketing material etc.,
but such matters can be discussed later, if you're intrested.

Please send me an email if you're intrested. I can then add you to
forthcoming mailing list in where we can start brainstorming.
