From a release-team perspective you should seriously consider to delay
the release for a few weeks instead of putting so much pressure on the
GTK+ development team. Any API that is released now will have to stick
for a very long time and there's probably nothing worse than a bad
API. Face it, GTK+ is not there yet; the API will need some review and
you are doing noone a favor by sticking to your release plans as if
your life would depend on it.

Time-based release plans are probably a good thing to do because it
shows people early until when they need to get their features in. But
you cannot seriously expect to be able to predict the release data
several months in advance. Now try to abandon that stupid idea that
GNOME 2.6 will be released exactly at the day you fixed back then.
Relax and take the time to polish things and fix some more bugs. Your
users will appreciate this more than a rushed out release that is
buggy and based on an API that was designed under pressure.
