libgnome API and GnomeVFS API ?

Hi all,
I'm not sure whether it's approprate to put this question here.

I've seen that GnomeVFS provides APIs to store/access mime type info,
Such as gnome_vfs_mime_get_***.
But I see similar functions at:
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/libgnome/gnome-gnome-mime-info.html,
such as gnome-mime-info-*.

Seems that the gnome-mime-info-* functions provide what I need,
but I'm not sure whether these functions are obsolete or deprecated
by GnomeVFS API.

Any comments are welcome.
