Trouble applying gconf changes imediately

If I do a:<br>

gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/interface/font_name
"Sans 12"<br>
<br>
with my regular user, changes occur imediately.<br>
<br>
If I do it via root, with: sudo -u "regularuser" gconftool-2 ...<br>
<br>
Then changes will only occur after a logout and login from gnome.<br>
<br>
I'm on Fedora 10. On Fedora 9 it worked.<br>

Any help?<br>
