GConf Pairs Deprecated?

I've noticed that support for the pair type has been removed from both 
gconftool as well as gconf-editor.  Does this mean pairs are being 
deprecated?

I actually don't remember gconf-editor ever support pairs, but 
gconftool's help says --type can be pair, and it gets this error:
Don't understand type `pair'
