Animation support in librsvg

Hello,

I am using librsvg for a game, and I want animations in it. I could
hack something together, but I think it's much nicer to do it Right and
implement proper animation support in the library.

Because I would like to have my work included in a future release, I'm
writing my plans here. Please let me know if you find them acceptable,
and if not, what needs to be changed.

For applications, the animation should be usable through:
- Sending events to the library (pointer move, key press, etc.).
- Rendering the image at a specified time. This should be called
  periodically for displaying the animation.
(I planned some extra callbacks and signals for optimization, in
particular for knowing that you don't have to do things, but they are
not relevant here.)

This should be implemented by splitting the library in two parts:
- One for reading the svg data, and maintaining the DOM. The main
purpose of this part is to execute javascript code. It maintains the
DOM because it must be able to do things with it, it reads the data
  because it maintains the DOM.
- One for rendering images. This shouldn't need much change from its
current implementation (it should get its objects from the DOM instead
  of the XML).

For the javascript parser, I plan to see if there is something suitable
available[1]. If not, I'll write a new one. It will in any case be a
separate library, for which I don't expect you to do maintainance. ;-)

One main change for librsvg is that it loses its libxml dependency, and
gets the libjavascript (or whatever it will be called) dependency
instead. Of course that will depend on libxml, so losing that is not
real. ;-)

If you have any comments please let me know. Please keep me Cc'd in
replies, because from the archives it seems this list holds mostly spam,
so I didn't subscribe.

Thanks,
Bas

    please let me know.
