Cannot build libxml2 2.6.2 python mod.

I am in unfamiliar terrirtory here, so I hope that someone can help me
discover the root of the problem:

I am trying to build the latest python binding for libxml2 & xslt using VC
5. The import library libxml2.lib exists on a FAT32 partition, although I
am running Windows 2000. I want to have it for Python 2.1. What is the
problem that causes "cannot seek to 0x3fad89f6"?
