Itermittant failures compiling gnome packages under gentoo prefix

Hi,

I have reported this bug downstream, but it appears that they don't have the
resources to process it, so I thought I would ask here:

In summary, when prefix compiles a gnome package, the documentation building
step takes an extremely long time, then fails.

I've experienced this type of failure with many packages, including but not
limited to: gnome-terminal, gedit, zenity.

Below is the end of a typical build log.

I have the following relevant packages installed:
