Accessing a mono .dll on OSX from Excel VBA

I'm looking for best practices or recommendations about using Excel VBA to
consume exported functions from a mono .dll on OSX.

My understanding is that OSX recognizes .dylib libraries, and that .dll's
are Windows specific. Am I missing something, or is this impossible?
