Hello Timotheus, You are correct. Unfortunately I only have xbuild at my disposal; I cannot use msbuild. Does this mean I'm out of luck with using relative paths? Also the xproj file extension instead of .csproj... I wonder if you should try building with msbuild instead of xbuild. It is open source after all... I guess this is all very much experimental. I did try to build dotnet core for Fedora with xbuild, but ran out of time to dig deep enough for that moment... see https://github.com/tpokorra/lbs-mono-fedora/tree/master/dotnet-coreclr and https://github.com/tpokorra/lbs-mono-fedora/blob/master/dotnet-corefx for inspiration. it does not work yet.
