are you on a 64-bit system?  If so, maybe you've hit this bug, which 
prevents nautilus-python from working there:

If this is the problem then when you run a new instance of Nautilus 
from the console you'll see something like this:

(nautilus:3810): Nautilus-Python-WARNING **: g_module_open libpython 
failed: /usr/lib/libpython2.7.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: 
No such file or directory

To test that, first run 'nautilus -q' to exit the existing Nautilus, 
then run 'nautilus' to run a fresh instance.
