Interesting and good. :)

I'm liking all these ideas, I think we can combine a lot of them into
something solid.

My hang ups on this design:
* those separator lines don't work, the curves look messy
* the splash is too, um, big - it's not conveying any meaning
* it's not width agnostic - on my display that's a lot of
  wasted real estate

Definitely something we need to start organising, irrespective of the
end design.  Try not to make the content too integrated with your html
layout, if possible.
