OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon on freeBSD

hi i have freeBSD 4.8; i have install Xfree86 well; KDE in my BSD box seems 
to do really well but GNOME crashes


when i type startx (which .xinitrc is set to gnome)
it appears the GNOME 2.2 loading and appears suddenly an error like this: 

there was an error starting the GNOME settings deamon
some things such as themes sounds and background settings 
may not work correctly
The settings daemon restarted too many times
The last error was:
Failed to active: OAFIID:GNOME_SettingsDaemon
Gnome will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time
you log in

Whats the problem then, how do i fix it?
