Re: gnome-freebsd digest, Vol 1 #15 - 1 msg (GDM upon startup)

I'm assuming that your intention is to start up GDM upon boot. 
Somewhere in between versions of GDM, there were changes made such that
it will no longer start up from a definition in /etc/ttys.  Instead, the
authors have provided a script in /usr/X11R6/etc/rc.d/gdm.sh.sample. 
Simply copy this to gdm.sh and upon startup, you'll be presented with
GDM.  Also, remove the corresponding entry from /etc/ttys.
