Regarding my previous posts about failure to upgrade the panel due to 
applet dependencies:

I think the question I really wanted to ask was, why do the applets have 
to use the same Gtk version as the panel? After all, they are 
self-contained modules, so there shouldn't be any direct dependency issues.
