They look fine on my monitor. Try the gnome-font-properties
tool (or RedHat->Preferences->Font) and change the rendering
to "Monochrome" or "Best Contrast". Also try "Details..."
There you can change the hinting and smoothing settings.

Dont mess with LCD or Subpixel settings unless you
have and LCD display, where it looks great :)
(Suppixel use the know order of R,G,and B pixels in
a LCD to make the display even better)

Doesn't look any better than mine with the default settings.
Of course it's subjective:)

In the detailed settings, choose none for Hinting and Smoothing.
Then they look horrid too. Also try changing the actual font used.
The Sans and Serif fonts are a little wider that the old
defaults.
