cd burn pb with gnome on redhat

Hi,

I just want to share my experience on burning CD with gnome desktop on 
RedHat.

The RedHat is 7.3 with no patch at all.
I got a CDR Traxdata 12/10/32 firmware LSRA (/dev/hdc) and a DVD 
(/dev/hdd). Also I plug an Alcatel Speedtouch USB.

First I used the setting hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi in grub config.
This had for effect to fail burning on the run or even not to be able to 
start the burn because of OPC failure (this thing which recognize the 
kind of layer on the CD-R).

To fix this pb, I disable the scsi emulation on DVD. I know that it 
removes the possibility of CD to CD copy but it is not my main usage.

Then I was disappointed by the real speed of the burning. I used 
Xcdroast and even if I set the speed to 12X, it was only 8X or even 
sometimes 4X. Moreover It happens that everythings crash. While burning, 
X crash, so I switch to console mode and after logged in, I got messages 
like "cannot fork" on a simple ls command. At this point, CDR is lost 
and I got to manually reboot.

We could see somethi,g try to access continuously to /dev/cdrom (while 
it was burning). After, pppd is not able to re-init, then cannaserver 
crash and xinitd and X and gdm till the moment when no fork is possible.

I read somewhere that gnome was a little bit to agressive when it try to 
automount cdrom. So I simply kill magicdev.

There is no more automount but there is no more crash too, which is the 
most important, we are not on M$ win-shit. Moreover the speed is now OK, 
12X asked on xcdroast gave 12X on real.
