My 'gnome-panel' suddenly away!?

Hello (all),

cause i had a chop and change in the record of a music 'dvd', i mean the 
sound was 'interrupted', i added the following line to 
'/etc/modules.conf' : "options ide-cd dma=1". The result was like 
expected. But as i restart the machine there was no more panel in 
"Gnome2". System is "RedHat 8.0" and "kernel-2.4.18-26.8.0".
With a little help from someone (may be), who had managed that 
"question" i would be glad!
