AFAIK, rp3 is depracated in favor of the current
"redhat-config-network", which handles PPP connections much better (I
don't use PPP myself, so this is all from others). So I'd suggest you
try redhat-config-network instead.

If you don't have redhat-config-network, I strongly recommend upgrading
your system to Red Hat Linux 9 (the most recent one).
