AA fonts in Red Hat 7.3 with gnome2

I just installed Red Hat 7.3 with gnome2 snapshots from gnome.org, but i
can't get AA fonts to work. I added GDK_USE_XFT=1 to my bashrc file but
doesn't seem to want to look pretty for me. 

Please CC me since I am not on this list.
