Try to see if there is a program or set of programs which make this happen. For me, it seems like it happens when i have a lot of programs running when i log out. If i had to guess, i would guess that a program has problems getting ready to save its state and has to time out before gnome can continue. (I am just guessing here) Hope this helps, john
