you can remove the focus by using the following block in the default
style

engine "pixmap"
image 
      {
        function        = FOCUS
	#recolorable     = TRUE
	#overlay_file    = "focus.png"
	#overlay_border  = { 4, 4, 4, 4 }
	#overlay_stretch = TRUE
      }
}
