Revert immediately [Was: breakage caused by ... gnome-icon-theme]

Please revert this change immediately. With just over a month to ship GNOME
2.14, this change is too great and vastly too late to be appropriate. It is
not a matter of a few bugfixes or even a frustrating usability discussion -
it's just flat out inappropriate in terms of timing and unilateral decision
making with deep compatibility repercussions.
