Ximian is pleased to announce Ximian Red Carpetâ„¢ 2.0, a new version of
its desktop client software that allows you to manage Linux software
installed on workstations and servers. With Red Carpet 2, you'll get:

 - Streamlined User Interface: Now update, install, and manage your
software with an easy to use application.

 - Search: Powerful new search capability for finding installed packages
and packages available for installation.

 - Software Information: A history capability tracks installs, updates,
removals and other activity initiated by Red Carpet.

 - Remote Management: Manage software on your own system, or any other
system using the Red Carpet Daemon.

 - Improved Command Line Interface: Easily manage your system locally or
remotely logged in.

Red Carpet 2 uses the Red Carpet Daemon for most of the heaving lifting
of managing software on your Linux system. Running in the background,
Red Carpet Daemon scans the Linux applications and packages installed on
your system. It automatically resolves software dependencies and
monitors for and detects conflicts when a user intends to install new
software using the Red Carpet graphical client interface.

NOTE FOR CURRENT COMMAND LINE USERS - If you prefer to keep your system
up to date with a command line, you can use "rug", our recently renamed
command line interface to the Red Carpet Daemon (for more details, see
http://support.ximian.com/q?397 )

You can find the new Red Carpet 2 by using your existing Red Carpet.
Just go to "System -> Software Update", and make sure that you're
subscribed to the Red Carpet channel.

Alternatively, you can download the new Red Carpet 2 from the Ximian
website at:

Ximian Red Carpet 2 supports the following platforms:

   Red Hat Linux 7.3, 8.0, 9
   SuSE Linux 8.2
   Mandrake Linux 9.1
