Re: XD2 Dependencies on devel packages

The case where I see this sort of thing most often is when you have some
-devel packages already installed, and the new versions are pulled in as
updates in order to avoid breaking your installed -devel environment.

Another possibility is that it's being pulled in as a dependency of
another -devel package which is getting upgraded (more likely with
gtk2-devel, as it is a rather low-level -devel library which is directly
required by at least eight other -devel packages and indirectly by
several more).

Yet another possibility is that you selected the development packages in
the installer, but they're not selected by default, so I suspect you'd
know if you'd done that.

"rpm -qR gtk2 | grep devel" didn't find anything on my machine (Red Hat
Linux 8.0), so I'm going to assume for now that it's one of the
not-quite-problems mentioned earlier.  If there is a package with an
inappropriate dependency, and that can be confirmed by querying the
package, that means it's not a Red Carpet bug (command-line rpm would
impose the same restrictions, if somewhat less conveniently).  In most
such cases, it's a packaging bug, though I've seen cases where the
breakage was upstream.
