"Clean" install strangeness

I just made a clean install of RH73/Ximian Desktop/Gnome-2-Snapshots and
have the following problems.

1.	Unable to change the gtk2 theme.  Selecting Metal or Redmond95 has no
effect.

2.	No icons on the drop down menus (Applications / Actions )

3.	Unable to make the Log Out action display a dialog box of
logout/reboot/shutdown.  It just goes straight to the gdm login screen.


Any ideas on how to fix the above are appreciated.
