I noticed that my Gnome-2, Ximianized, Red Hat 7.3, VNC server (vncserver) was not working properly properly. Opening a VNC viewer to view the server's desktop displayed a blank window with no panels or icons, just the old style X shaped pointer. The VNC viewer (vncviewer) was OK and was able to view other vncserver desktops on Gnome-1.4 boxes. but not on its own Gnome-2 vncserver desktop. Even opening a vncviewer on the Gnome-2 box does not display the desktop properly. I tried switching to tightvnc with identical results. The server starts but a vncviewer only sees a blank desktop with no content. I just installed the new Mandrake 9.0 rc2 today and had the same problems on it. However, a guy I know with a Gentoo distro running Gnome-2 with Metacity and tightvnc claims he has no such problem, that VNC works as it should on his system. Is there a known issue with either Gnome-2 or Metacity and VNC? Anyone manage to get VNC working with Gnome-2 on their favorite distro? --- Kurt _______________________________________________ gnome-2-snapshots maillist - [email protected] http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/gnome-2-snapshots
